CHAGFORD gave Alphington a scare before the C West leaders emerged 15-run winners at the Chronicles.

The Alphas batted all the way down the order to make 225 all out in the last of their 45 overs – Dave Haysom top scoring on 38.

Chagford weaved from 76 for one to 96 for five then 193 for seven before slowing to 210 all out.

Chagford captain Derek Lammonby top scored with 65 and only when he was seventh out could Alphington sniff a win.

Alphington are still top of the table with a four-point lead over Abbotskerswell.

It’s where Alphington skipper Stuart Shaw planned to be at this stage of the season, although he would have liked a greater lead.

“I just hope the holiday and wedding season doesn’t get in the way of our ambitions,” said Shaw.

Chagford drop back to fifth as Kingsbridge went past them by beating Chelston & Kingskesrswell.

Key knocks for Alphington came from Haysom and Paul James (30), who put on 44 for the fourth wicket, and 54 between Al Davey (16) and Andy Wilson (35).

Last man out Ashley Green biffed a brisk 24.

South African off-spinner Kenny Vos took three for 31 from nine overs to Chagford and there were two wickets each for Mark Peck and Rhys Holland.

Vos and James Fulner got Chagford awau to a 56 run start and when Vos got out to Shaw for 48 his side were on 86 for three.

Lammonby and Dave Penberthy (16) got Chagford back in the game with a stand of 55 after they had slipped to 138 for six.

Nathan Bright bowled Lammonby, Mark Halse took a return catch to dispatch Penberthy and that was the end of Chagford.
