BOVEY Tracey handed out a nine-wicket  hiding to bottom club Brixham, who are only one more defeat away from relegation.

Brixham’s  frail batting crumbled again as they were bowled out for 63 – Matt Golding (3-20) and Toby Codd (4-24) running through them.

Bovey lost Ashley Causey in the 14 overs it took to knock off the runs, although when he was removed by Mark Orchard the target was two to win.

Brixham  are now 73 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table with 100 left to play for. If they lose to Exmouth this Saturday and are 80 points behind that is their race run.

Hugo Whitlock (2-13) had two of the wickets to fall as Brixham struggled to 43 for four.,

Top scorer Adam Edwards – he made 14 – was fifth out at 47 and from then on it was downhill all the way.

Six overs was all it took for Golding and Codd to finish the job, Brixham’s last five men making two and four ducks.

Bovey openers Peter Bradley (26) and Causey (25) didn’t hang around chasing the target.

Two runs were  all Bovey needed when Rob Honeybul went in and they didn’t have to wait long.

For Bovey it was a bounceback win after their defeat by Torquay seven days earlier.

“I was pleased to win the way we did, especially on the back of last week’s performance,” said skipper Sam Hickinbottom.

“All the bowlers deserve credit for not letting off once we had a few early wickets.

“We were clinical as opposed to getting complacent as we sometimes are in those situations.

“Hopefully we can carry that in to next week against Plymouth.”
