HATHERLEIGH took a step in the right direction when they beat Barton by 158 runs to move out of the bottom two in the A Division.
But these are worrying times for Barton, who are now only four points clear of the drop spots with promotion-chasing Budleigh Salterton to play this Saturday.
Barton have only won once in the last six starts – and that was against Ipplepen who have lost every game they have played so far.
The last time Barton won a game was in round seven when Sandford were beaten by four wickets.
Hatherleigh shot along to 251 for six in their 50 overs – Gareth Tidball and Charlie Nielson both making half centuries.
Matt Thomas (26) and Danny Forfester (33) got Haherleigh up to 99 for three then Tidball and Neilson put on 94 for the fourth wicket.
First to go was Tidball – bowled by Matt Litpon for 61 off 78 balls.
Neilson was last out for 61 at 226 for six, leaving Ryan Davies to smash 21 off nine balls before the overs ran out.
Barton’s Tom Drake reminded everyone what a good, all-round cricketer he is with two for 17 from 10 overs.
Lipton – one of three brothers playing for the club - showed he has promise with two for 23 from eight overs.
Barton were all out for 93 midway through the 29th over – no one making more than opener Steve Lewis (21).
Lewis was fifth out on 58 after Barton were badly holed by Charlie Nielson (3-32) and Sean Leathern (3-52)
Mark Gilmour (16) and Tom Porter (11) had the only other double-figure scores as Barton were finished off by Thomas (3-22).
Winning captain Mark Lake said after four straight losses it was good to win and do so by dominating from start to finish.
Lake added: “What pleased me the most was we got a good total without Matt Thomas getting a score.
“I have high praise for my two opening bowlers, who were clinical in taking six wickets between them in an opening spell.
“It's just the start of a run of results but we had to start somewhere and hopefully this is it.”
