EXMOUTH are up to third in the Premier Division thanks to a 121-run win at Brixham.

No one scored more than tail-ender Lawrence Greenway, whose 38 not out off 27 balls took Exmouth to 233 for seven in 50 overs.

No one really missed out either apart from former Devon skipper Bob Dawson, who was out for seven to Issac Withington (2-51).

Brixham were all out for 112 in reply – Craig Eaves top scoring on 44.

David Lye took four for 25 and there were two wickets each for George Greenway and Callum French.

Exmouth’s win puts them third on 187 points, close enough to catch Exeter  (192) for the runners-up spot behind champs in waiting Sidmouth, who are probably one win away from the title.

Defeat consigned Brixham to relegation as they are now 85 points adrift with 80 left to play for in the final five games.

Exmouth were solid rather than spectacular when they batted. Openers Lye (36) and fin Marks (14) put on 49 then French (25) and Dan Pyle (16) took the score up to 108 for three.

French and Dawson went in the space of two balls – Matt Parsons dispatched Pyle – but a stand of 52 between skipper Richard Baggs (35no) and Jon Evenett (33) held the Exmouth innings together.

Baggs and Greenway added 66 in the last nine overs.

Brixham’s bowling effort was led by Eaves (2-36) and new captain Lee Upham (2-37).

South African paceman Corné Dry bowled 10 overs for 32 runs, but remained wicketless. He has only take 14 wickets this season in the league for Brixham.

Brixham were never really allowed to get going by Lye or George Greenway (2-11) and lost wickets in batches.

Lye had Tom Hopper and Harry Andrews in successive balls – 56 for four, 56 for five – then four wickets went going from 83 for five to 89 for nine. Eaves went at 87 for seven.

Matt parsons with 15 off 20 balls kept Exmouth in the field a little longer than they anticipated.

After losing to Heathcoat and Sidmouth, Exmouth skipper Baggs said: “It was good to get back to winning ways.

He added: I was really pleased for Lawrence Greenway, who played fantastically well - and fin marks impressed again. “Our aim now is to win all four remaining games and finish as high as possible.”
