HEATHCOAT remain second in the Premier Division table after hammering Brixham by eight wickets in a non-event.

Relegated Brixham only took 10 men to Knightshayes and were bowled out for 94.

The first three went for 19 on the board – Matt Rudston (3-18) claiming the lot – then stabilised through Issac Withington (14) and Tim Robinson (11) briefly.

Withington and Tom Blundell (24) took the score to 60 for five – and from then on it was downhill all the way.

Jack Menheneott (3-24) and Dinesh Raheja (2-12) saw off the tail enders with the minimum of fuss.

Heathcoat needed just 16 overs to knock off the runs, led to victory by skipper Brad Barnes with an unbeaten 39.

Dylan Penberthy made 18 of the first 24 before Craig Eaves (1-21) got him out.

Pete Randerson (23) supported Barnes as another 43 was wiped off, leaving Sam Smith (13no) to apply the last rites.

Sidmouth, 45 points clear at the top with three games to go, are odd-on to win the title now.

Heathcoat and Exeter are neck-and-neck on 211 points in the race to finish second.

Barnes was clearly unimpressed by Brixham, saying: “They rocked up with 10 players and half the second team.

He added: Rudston and Jamie Drew bowled well up front and once we got Corné  Dry out it was game over. “

Heathcoat’s pursuit of second place, which would be their best since joining the Devon League in 1978, resumes this Saturday with a visit to Cornwood.

Heathcoat’s previous best in the Premier Division was third in 1997 and before that fourth in 1995.
