EXMOUTH had an eye on next season in the game against Torquay on the Maer, which failed to go the distance.

Young batter Finlay Marks has been getting runs down the order when relied on this season and is clearly one for the future.

Skipper Richard Baggs moved Marks up to open with David Lye and he showed his mettle by sticking around in wet conditions to make 26 off 64 balls.

“Fin has stuck with us, worked hard and deserved his chance,” said Baggs.

“He will be given a long run at the top of the order and the chance to make the spot his.”

The teams were on and off several times before umpires Jim Hicken and Phil Matten decided there was no prospect of a meaningful game.

Exmouth managed 35 overs in the middle and reached 119 for four.

Bob Dawson top scored with 34 for Exmouth.
