TAVISTOCK are looking good for a top-four finish in the B Division after scraping an 11-run win at Braunton.

Braunton, resigned to relegation already and a man short for the entire game, held Tavvy to 196 for eight.

A home win seemed on the cards when Braunton were 165 for six with eight overs to go – the wickets started to tumble.

Shaun Daymond finished things off with two for six as Braunton were all out for 185.

Top four may not seem that special, but Tavistock will be happy enough with that after last season’s relegation from the A Division.

And if they do finish fourth – only Ottery can get ahead of them now – it will have been achieved without an overseas player.

Tavvy’s South African all-rounder Dalton Kannemeyer went home injured two weeks into the season and they have played without an overseas ever since. None of the teams above them – Plymstock, Bideford or Ivybridge – have been handicapped in the same way.

Ian Gray (48) and Dave Ball (40) led the run scoring for Tavvy, with some help from James White (35).

Dad and lad Callum (3-25) and Mark Mitchell (3-29) were Braunton’s leading wicket takers.

The Mitchells then led Braunton to 105 for three in reply with 51 and 25 respectively. Dan Brierley weighed in with 38,

James McGahey (3-35) and Ball (2-18) kept the pressure on with the ball, leaving Daymond to close out the game.
