PHIL Anning produced a match-winning spell of bowling to speed Shobrooke Park to a 35-run victory over Ottery St Mary.

Ottery were going along nicely at 100 for two chasing 231 to win with Dan Flower (28), Joe Henkus (35) and George Biggs (26) all among the runs.

Anning had Dan Jeacock stumped by veteran keeper Chris Ford, then Tom Youngman claimed Biggs as Ottery started to wobble.

The two-pronged attack of Anning and Youngman cut through the middle and lower order.

Anning was out of overs after nine with five wickets for 49 runs – and Youngman likewise for three for 30.

South African speedster Jacques Budricks (2-31) took care of last man Will Harrison as Ottery were bowled out for 195.

Evergreen left-hander Richard Pyle – 20 years ago he scored 530 runs in the season for the team – showed he still has it with 65 in Shobrooke’s 230 for six.

Jon James (48) and Chris Simpson (42) got Shobrooke to 112 for three, then Pyle and Ben Trenaman (25no) put on 85 for the sixth wicket.

Ottery bowlers Harrison and Joe Birch were tough to get away – 17 overs between them for 31 runs – but Rob Crabb (2-73) and George Southall-Brown (1-70) did take some tap.

Shobrooke could finish as high as fourth in the table if they win at South Devon this Saturday – a result that would do arch-rivals Thorverton a huge favour.
