Job Title: Community Cricket Coach (South Dartmoor)

Salary - £18K + expenses

Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible)

The Devon Cricket Board (DCB) wish to appoint a Community Cricket Coach to support the implementation of its strategic plan in the South Dartmoor and South Devon region.  This post is supported by Chance to Shine and South Dartmoor Academy, and in partnership with cricket clubs and leagues in South Devon

Devon Cricket Board Ltd seeks to employ a highly motivated and competent Community Cricket Coach to work as part of their existing Cricket Development team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and delivering parts of the business plan of the Cricket Board.

The post holder will be an integral part of South Dartmoor and South Devon, working to enhance the experience young people in education and clubs have within cricket/sport.  The role will work towards the effective delivery of quality cricket across the area, coaching in the school and club setting.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in cricket/sports coaching and working with various partners, developing core sporting activities and increasing the number of children taking an interest in cricket.

You will need to be passionate about and committed to cricket coaching at a local level.

Candidates must demonstrate both team working skills and the ability to work unsupervised using their own initiative.

Excellent communication, presentation and IT skills will be expected. Applicants must hold a full driving license and be able/willing to work some evenings and weekends.

The post will be based at the South Dartmoor Academy.  For this role, it would be an advantage if you have experience of cricket/sports development at grassroots level and have a sound knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the game as well as experience of dealing with the education sector, voluntary sport sector and/or local authorities.

You will be a self-starter with energy and enthusiasm together with good administration and organisational skills. Equally you will be an excellent communicator with a passion for the development of cricket/sport for young people.

  1. JOB PURPOSE & FOCUS

Job Purpose including main duties and responsibilities:
The post holder will be expected to achieve in the following areas:

  1. Competition – increase opportunities for inter/intra school cricket
  2. Player Pathway – increased numbers of children within club junior sections
  3. School Engagement – work with schools to embed cricket within the schools sporting provision
  4. Sustainability – develop capacity and capability in schools and clubs to ensure an enduring legacy
  5. Excellence – enhance skill levels for players aged 5 – 18

This will result from a work programme with key responsibilities to:

A. Organise, plan and deliver a programme of high quality cricket sessions and competition with a specific focus upon delivering in schools across the South Dartmoor region
B. Support local clubs and district associations with a variety of development programmes

Work closely with key local partners, sporting agencies and individuals in both voluntary and professional sectors to:

  • Plan, deliver and review high quality cricket / multi skills / core movement coaching sessions that are young person focused. Including coaching sessions for specific priority groups e.g. Women & Girls, rurally isolated communities etc.
  • Support the development of the wider pool of teachers and sports coaches by mentoring and / or tutoring both formally and informally.
  • Actively support local cricket clubs with development programmes.
  • Actively support the transition of young people from school to community sport by, for example, the establishment of transition clubs and facilitating school-club links.
  • Provide formal written reports and ensure that all monitoring and evaluation is undertaken as directed.

  • Conduct sessions in accordance with the appropriate ECB guidelines and good practice.
  • Conduct sessions in accordance with the policy of Devon Cricket Board and its Partners where appropriate

  • Perform all duties in an equitable manner and to actively promote the principles of equality amongst colleagues, partners and service users.
  • Conform to, actively commit to and promote Devon Cricket Board values both with internal and external ‘customers’ when using any communication.

2. SUPERVISION AND WORK PLANNING

The coach will be employed by the Devon Cricket Board Ltd and line managed by the Devon Cricket Development Manager in partnership with the Dartmoor School Sports Partnership

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Working knowledge of school to club links and cricket development pathways.
  • Experience as a cricket coach at Level 2 or higher (or overseas equivalent).
    Understanding of the coach & teacher education courses, UKCC & ECB.
    Understanding of the Chance to Shine programme.
    Experience of working in a school setting.
  • Experience of teaching/coaching children of all ages.
  • Experience of working with recreational sports clubs.
  • Understanding of partnership working and able to create strong and sustainable links with contacts throughout the area.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent administrative skills and evidence of project work.
  • Computer literate and effective user of excel, powerpoint and other Microsoft programmes.
  • Child protection trained or, commitment to achieving this within a short period of time.
  • First Aid trained or, a commitment to achieving this within a short period of time.
  • ECB CRB checked.
  • A member of ECBCA.
  • Ability to travel independently between sites (Full and valid UK driving licence).

Desirable:

  • Level 3 ECB qualification.
  • Understanding of the DCB player pathway.
  • Experience of coaching on elite player programmes.
  • Experience of working on cricket specific projects.
  • Experience of coaching a District and/or County age group team.
  • Experience of managing a cricket coaching programme and mentoring of

Club Coaches.

  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum Teaching Programme.
