SIDMOUTH’S cricketers celebrated a league and cup double at the club’s annual awards evening.

New skipper Luke Bess in his first season at the helm took Sidmouth to the Premier Division title and victory over Exeter in the final of the Euro Shopper Devon Cup.

Graham Munday - 3rd XI bowler of the yearTo complete a memorable season for the club, 2nd XI skipper Declan Lines led his team to their league title too.

All these achievements were marked after dinner at the Bedford Hotel overlooking the ground.

Nearly 70 members, guests and sponsors had dinner then listened to speeches from the team captains – Bess, Lines and 3rd XI skipper Dave Watkins – plus an assessment of the summer by chairman Fionn Wardrop.Jordan Fowler receiving the Champagne Moment award from Jay Thorne

“We had a remarkable season and enjoyed the highlights one last time,” said former 1st XI captain and club secretary Anthony Griffiths.

“The hard part is maintaining the standards we have set for ourselves and we will start that when winter nets begin soon.”

Award winners

1st XI batting: Liam Lewis 493 runs, average 70.42; bowling: Kyle Brockley 31 wickets at 20.38

2nd XI batting: Declan Lines 539 runs, average 38.3; bowling Daley Holmes 24 wickets at 27.48.

3rd XI bating: Dave Watkins 389 runs at 28.92; bowling Graham Munday 19 wickets at 18.37; Champagne moment: Jordan Fowler.

Clubman of the year: Niall Davies.

Tom Simmonds was named club fielder of the year. Tom, a Devon U15 player, is preparing to tour South Africa with Devon Development next month.
