DARTINGTON & Totnes, who dropped down from the B Division with South Devon and Braunton last term, have asked Harold Stevenson to resume as captain one-more time.

The 57-year-old left-hander has had several stints as captain before but thought he had got rid of the job once and for all in 2015 when James Howrihane took it in.

Two years down the line Howrihane has a young family, with the commitment that requires, and asked to be relieved of the post.

There wasn’t exactly a forest of arms raised in the dressing room when volunteers were being sought to replace Howrihane, so Stevenson stepped back into the job.

Stevenson has two aims for the season ahead: staying up and enjoying the game again.

“From week two last season, after we lost to Shobrooke Park, most of us knew we would be going down,” said Stevenson.

“There is no fun in knowing that all season and it showed.

“We want to start enjoying our cricket again and start winning games again.

“With a few new faces around I am optimistic we can steer clear of relegation danger.”

Ian Bransdon, a Premier Division winner with Torquay in his younger days, is poised to play more regularly this season, which will bolster the D&T batting.

John Perkins, a keeper who bats, got his appetite for the game back in the 2nd XI last season and is likely to play 1st XI cricket this term.

Elliot Miller, who was D&T’s overseas player in 2009, is back for another spell at the club. He scored more than 300 runs and took some valuable wickets at times.
