BRIXHAM visit high-flying Hatherleigh this Saturday hoping it will be third time lucky.

Last time out they went down to a second successive defeat when Lewdown  beat them three wickets on run rate.

Brixham were all out for 132 in the 49th of their 50 overs – Jason Oaks top scoring with 60.

After Tom Hopper  (11) and Tim Robinson (25) put on 26 for the first wicket, Oakes was left holding the innings together almost unaided.

Oakes was sixth out at 123, after which it didn’t take long to wipe out the stragglers.

Adrian Clements took finished with four for 14 from eight overs as Brixham subsided, their last five wickets going for nine runs.

Dino Visser – one for 21 off 10 overs – gave Brixham little to hit.

Visser came to Lewdown’s rescue with the bat, making 31 not out to get them over the line after a couple of rain breaks.

Kian Burns made 24 at the top before falling to Mark Orchard (2-27).

Robinson, a contender for Brixham’s man of the match, got into the middle order on his way to  four-for-41 haul.

Visser, who went in at 35 for two, was still there at the terminal stoppage in a total of 113 for seven.

Lewdown had effectively won the game by then, although neither side realised at first.

“We had already been of and the target reduced by 12,” said paceman Orchard.

“When we finally came off and the calculations were done, Lewdown were ahead on run rate.

“Who would have won then had it been played out? They needed another 20 with three wickets left so it could have gone either way.

“We would have given ourselves a better chance if we hadn’t batted so badly at times.”
