CULLOMPTON are right behind top two Feniton and Kilmington in the C Division East after they won by nine wickets at Clyst St George.

Skipper Chris Ferro scored 40 of the first 64 on the board to point Clyst towards a total of 183 for seven.

James Edworthy made 38 before Clyst slowed to 103 for five. Steve Bourke (26) and Toby Pullan (40no) upped the tempo near the end of the 28-over game.

Jason Parr lashed a unbeaten 99 to set Cully on course for victory.

A first-wicket stand of 170 between Parr and Jacob Dienes (69) broke the back of the chase.

Brendon Parr was the not-out batsman when the winning runs were scored with an over to go.

Leaders Feniton were rained off at Countess Wear (24-0) where only seven overs were bowed.

Kilmington made an assault on the record books in their 171-run win over Braunton on the Hitchcock Memorial Field.

Killy’s total of 365 for four wasn’t a divisional record, but the opening stand of 249 between Brett Garner (113) and Josh Short (183no) definitely was.

Clyst Hydon pair John Rhodes and Simon Holmes set the old record at 168 against Uplyme in 2016.

Short’s 183 not out – 15 fours and nine sixes – beat the previous individual best for the division of 162 scored by Simon Prideaux of Filleigh against Kentisbeare in 2015.

Braunton’s bowling figures are not suitable reading for cricketers of a nervous disposition.

Jon Baglow’s two for 45 from nine overs was the best of the bunch. Jamie Matthews  (1-48 off 3) was at the other end of the scale.

Braunton were all out for 194 in reply with seven of their 45 overs unbowled.

Braunton were 147 for four when Martin Smith was dismissed for 35. Baglow (41) had already been and gone.

Paddy Dartnoll stuck around for 36 but no one else made more than a dozen as the last five wickets went for 34 runs.

The wickets were shared in two with Garner, Ben Fuzzard, Tom Gooding, Tom Olive and Jon Tattershall all getting in on the act.
