BABBACOMBE edged ahead of Ashburton by a point at the top of the C Division West following their nine-wicket win at Shaldon.

Shaldon were skittled out for 61 in the 24th over – Tim Goodwin taking five of their wickets for just 16 runs.

Andy McVeigh and Dean Peall (2-20) did the early damage then Goodwin scythed through the middle and lower order.

No one made more than Andrew Epsley (24), who had the only double-figure score. Four batters didn’t manage a run and two only got one each.

Babbacombe lost opener Steve Lewis on nine, which probably hastened their demise by bringing Andy Kingdon in sooner rather than later.

Kingdon’s 27 not out off 18 balls, coupled with Jake Hand making 25 not out off 32, had the game won inside 10 overs.

TOM Durman was at it again in Ashburton’s 58-run win over Stoke Gabriel.

Durman, who nailed Bridestowe for a ton in the previous game, took 93 off Stoke Gabriel.

With Tristan Wakefield (27) and skipper Ashley Berry (39) also chipping in, Ashes totted up 224 for nine.

Durman put on 66 with Wakefield and 79 with Berry.

Stoke seamers Andy Ball and Jake Robinson had three wickets each – Robinson coming back  at the end to pick off a couple.

Issac Withington took two for 29 from nine steady overs.

Stoke, who are one off the bottom of the table, lacked the significant innings the rest could bat round to mount a successful chase.

Skipper Mike Meech made a top score of 37 and Dan Bullock had 25. Jack Connabeer was 19 not out from 74 balls faced in the 45-over total of 166 for nine.

All Ashburton’s bowlers were cheap to run with Matt Churchill (3-28) and Ashley Harvey (2-40) the most effective.

SOUTH Devon’s last-minute signing Dinesh Raheja is looking like an inspired choice after he set them up for a whopping 247-run win over Plymouth CS&R.

Raheja, who has been with Alphington and Heathcoat in the past, became available so late in the day he missed the signing deadline for round one.

In three games since – which include a wash out – Raheja has scored a match-turning half-century against Shaldon and match-winning 125 against CS&R.

South Devon haven’t topped the 300-mark since the heady days of 2014 when Neil Hancock was their match-day pro. After last season’s relegation from the B Division and winter departure of skipper Jon Martin to Barton, Raheja is giving them the boost they need.

James Allen and Jonty Parsons got South Devon up to 75 for two, then Raheja joined in and really cut loose.

Raheja slammed 16 fours and four sixes in his 125 as he and skipper Ali Wright (49) took South Devon to 338 for three.

Darren Bartrop (3-54) took all three wickets to fall.

Civil were never in the hunt after sliding to 46 for five – Ali Wright (3-24) doing most of the damage.

Allen (4-19) mopped up the stragglers, aided and abetted by Raheja (2-24) as Civil slid to 91 all out.

Victory lifts South Devon to joint third with Bridestowe ahead of Saturday’s Marsh Road tussle with Ashburton.

DARTINGTON & Totnes didn’t hang about on their way to a six-wicket win over Chagford.

Three wickets each for Gysbertus Loots (3-34) and Harry Baxendale (3-17) helped skittle Chagford for 103,

Chagford were 24 for four after an early going over from Loots and Andy Bligh (2-23), but fought back through Will Lammonby (24), Callum Worth (21) and David Penberthy (21no).

Chris Cook (2-23) knocked over a couple of tail enders as Chagford’s last four wickets went for 21 runs as they were bowled out in the 30th over.

Dartington & Totnes could afford to wait for the bad balls to come along and saw off the threat of Derek Lammoby (2-23) and Callum Worth with the new ball.

Cook (23no) and James Howrihane (28) put on 47 unbroken to win the game in the 24th over.

Dartington & Totnes are at home to Shaldon this Saturday.

Bridestowe ensured that they didn't lose too much ground on the unbeaten top two with a six-wicket win over Kingsbridge.

Kingsbridge racked up 248 for eight with Freddie Ford (78) and Ashley Treeby (51) making most of the runs.

They were helped by 41 extras on a windy day at Butts Meadow.

Dan Fogerty (3-31) was the pick of the Bridestowe bowlers.

Matt Dennis (2-38) also picked up a couple of wickets through excellent catches.

Bridestowe chased the runs down comfortably, with three overs left.

James Ewen (98no) batted through the innings and put on 149 for the fourth wicket with Chris Lavis (44).

Kingsbridge helped the cause by dropping Ewen six times!

Bhanu de Silva (2-38) kept Kingsbridge in the game with a couple of wickets.

Pat Ewen (27no) finished things off in no time with a 10-ball innings that included six boundaries.

Kingsbridge conceded 51 extras on a day both teams’ bowlers will want to forget.
