IVYBRIDGE beat visiting Chudleigh by 73 runs to move into the A Division top four for the first time.

The Bridge have never been as high as the A Division in the 30 years they have played league cricket – so fourth really is heady heights.

Openers Abraham Kopparambil (40) and Jake Zimmerman (30) laid the foundations with a stand of 59 – and the following batsmen built on that partnership.

Andy Johnson (34) and Jeewan deSilva (53) added 70 for the fourth wicket after Grant Stone (2-29) picked off Kopparambil and Adam Huxtable.

Harry Solomon (23no) and George Thompson (13) put on 36 in the dash at the end.

Chudleigh were all out for 156 in the 42nd over, spun out after getting a start through openers Mark Solway (32) and Stone (53).

Chudleigh were 86 for none when Stone fell to Solomon (2-25) and was the slide started it soon gathered pace.

There was brief resistance from skipper Ed Foreman (14) and Mark Russell (17), but otherwise ball ruled bat.

The last four wickets went for just 14 runs with Kopparambil (3-17) finishing what Solomon, Joe Langworthy (2-10) and deSilva (2-14) started.

Winning captain Kelvin Trent said the bowling effort made up for an apparent deficit in the runs department.

“I think we were 20-30 short if I am honest,” said Trent.

“They got off to a really good start, but we pegged them back by taking a couple wickets.

We kept the pressure on by taking wickets. We fielded well and took our catches.

“A good, all-round performance.”

Disappointed Chudleigh skipper Ed Foreman said having five squadmen missing did his side no favours.

He added: "We bowled well to restrict them to 230 but batted poorly on a good wicket."
