BIDEFORD went past Ipplepen to the top of the B Division table when they defeated lowly Thorverton by six wickets.

Thors’ early order were blown away by Paul Heard (2-27) who whipped out openers Paul Fielder and John Farley.

Alex Hills (25) and George Greed (24) got the board moving the both fell to Josh Atkinson (3-26).

After they went David Baldock (24) soldiered on a one end while Jamie Lathwell (3-17) and Mike Lemmings (2-4) ran through the batting at the other.

Baldock was ninth out on 95 for nine and Thorverton were dismissed for 103.

Bideford had a brief blip in the late 20s when Matt Shepherd and James Ford went.

Andy Pitt (2-16) kept Bideford honest but time was on their side and a stand of 44 between Ollie Hannam (19no) and Heard (30no) clinched the result.

Winning skipper Ford said: “The toss was key and we were lucky enough to win it.

“Our bowlers did what they've done well all season and restricting Thorverton to 103 always put us in a strong position.

“Small targets are always tricky and Thorverton bowled well enough to put us under some pressure.

“We had some luck with the bat nearer the end and still have to work better as a batting unit but, overall, the result was a pleasing one.”

Losing skipper Pitt had no complaints, other than about his own side’s catching.

“We didn’t have enough runs and bowled very well to stop them getting the runs until the 28th over,” said Pitt.

“We dropped a few catches and that definitely didn’t help.”
