DAVE Manning clubbed a century to set Tavistock on course for a 92-run win at Filleigh.

Tavistock blazed away to reach 263 for six with Manning making 115. Ian Gray chipped in with 76.

Manning went in at 27 for two after early punishment from James Campbell and put on 148 with Gray.

By the time Manning was dismissed in the final over, he had been involved in a further stand of 59 with Charlie Barriball (21no).

Filleigh were all out for 171, no one making more than Mark Prideaux (46).

The wickets were shared round with Charlie Barriball, Rob Bone and Billy Bariball taking two each.

Victory keeps Tavistock fourth in the table, a slot player-cum-chairman Manning is happy with.

“After the damp start  we had in the first couple of matches it is good to be playing week in and week out and getting results,” said Manning.

“Players are getting into a rhythm and that helps the team perform better.”

Defeat leaves Filleigh three off the bottom of the table. Losses for Barton and Thorverton too mean they are no worse off than they were before the last round of games.

A win at Barton this Saturday will improve Filleigh’s prospects no end.

Skipper Simon Prideaux said of the Tavistock defeat: “We dropped catches – Manning among them – and probably got 30-40 more than they should have.

“Our batsmen didn’t make best use of a good wicket and played too many shots a bit too soon. We didn’t keep the good balls out.

“It is not the first game we have lost, but it is the first time we have been outplayed in all areas.”
