Left to right are the Chappells, the Tattertons and the Farleys - Kentisbeare's three sets of fathers and sons

KENTISBEARE march on at the top of the D Division East following an eight-wicket win over Tiverton.

That’s five wins on the spin for Kents and only three dropped points so far.

Tiverton were bowled out for 148 in the 44th of their 45 overs – and were glad of tail ender Paul Rendall for getting that far.

Long after Jerry Reed (2) and Dane Williams (34) had been and gone, Rendall went in a 110 for eight and wrung 38 runs out of the last two wickets.

Pick of the bowlers for Kents with four for 29 was Martin Howe.

Phil Chappell marked his return to the club with two for 12. Chappell’s return brought the sets of fathers and sons in the side to three.

Phil’s son is Scott Chappell. Playing alongside were the Farleys – Neil and Josh – and Paul and Rory Tatterton.

Paul Tatterton top scored with 64 as Kents knocked off the runs with more than 11 over to spare.

A stand of 71 between Tatterron and Karl Walton (19) made a dent in the deficit. Josh Farley (26) and David Armstrong (10no) were the supporting acts in the final scenes.

Kents are on 97 points from 100 on offer with Upottery to play this Saturday.

Barnstaple stay hard on the heels of unbeaten Kentisbeare at the top of the D Division East thanks to a 38-run win over Axminster.

Steve Moore’s men made an inauspicious start as opener Andy Barton was bowled first ball by Dave Hayball.

A second-wicket stand of 125 for the second wicket between George McEndoo (59) and Jack Moore (80) more than repaired the damage.

B&P slowed in the late overs, but with Jason Smith making 25 they mustered 203 for six.

Dave Field and Alex Wraight had two wickets each for Axminster.

Axminster lost opener Max Felgate to james Lake in the first over, but chipped away at the total through Paul Miler (35), Joe Elsworth (25), Dave Field (34) and Alex Watson (27).

What Axminster didn’t have was the anchorman who went on and on the rest could bat round.

Watson’s demise at 141 for six was the beginning of the end for Axminster.

Their last five wickets went for just 24 runs on the way to 165 all out.

The wicket were shared round with two each for the Moores – Jack (2-27), Steve (2-24) – and two more for Brady Saunders (2-27) and George McEndoo (2-25).

Barnstaple & Pilton are away to Topsham St James on Saturday.

Halberton & Sampford Peverell beat Honiton by 42 run after Bryn Latchem, Rob Durrant and Lee Hooper all made half centuries in a total of 254 for six.

Chardstock carried too much ammo for Newton St Cyres and Woodbury as they rattled along to an 183-run win.

Stuart Parris clattered 139 in Chardstock’s total of 282 for four.

Richard Pyman, the former Dorset and Oxford University pacer, then had three for 17 to help dismiss Newton for 99.

Topsham St James go to Barnstaple on Saturday looking for a bounceback win after they lost by eight wickets to visiting Upottery.

Take out Ross Treleaven’s 42 and 24 from opener Aiden Pring and there wasn’t a lot from the rest in Tops’ total of 123 all out.

Rob Tasker took four for 29 as Topsham’s last five wickets went for 19 runs.

Tasker hadn’t finished with Saints either as he slammed 91 not out off 68 balls – 14 fours, two sixes – as they raced to victory in less than 21 overs.

Tasker is in the form of his life right now as he made 145 against Axminster last Saturday.
