HONITON recovered from a shaky start to beat Tiverton by 85 runs thanks to a record-breaking stand by their tail-enders..

Ben Kidson (56) and Phil Tansley (40) put on 100 for the ninth wicket to reach 220 all out. Their stand was a new league record for the division by four runs.

Tiverton were bowled out for 135 in reply, Alan Ostler (3-13) complimenting Kidson (2-42) and Adam Holmes (2-8).

BARNSTAPLE & Pilton can go top of the D Division East if they beat visiting Kentisbeare on Saturday.

Kentisbeare are top of the table by a point after the latest round of fixtures, which included Barnstaple winning by 43 runs at Topsham St James in a game disrupted by the weather.

Jack Moore made a patient 57 not out off 123 balls – just three fours in there – to keep B&P going after they slumped to 16 for four early on, Ed Kirby (2-11) did some of the damage.

Moore and Jamie Tapp (34) stopped the slide with a stand of 56, then Lee Cole (29) joined Moore to put on another 59.

Upottery recovered from a mid-innings stumble to 68 for four to make 197 all out – James Mitchan (31) and Ian Tasker (45) the leading run scorers.

Kents were all out in reply for 179 – a better total than looked likely when they were 115 for eight. Neil Farley (44) made lower-order runs.

THERE was an early finish a Chardstock where the home side defeated Halberton & Sampford Peverell by eight wickets in a low-scoring affair.

The visitors were all out for 73 in 31,3 overs, no one making more than Rob Venn (19).

Tom Warren (3-21) and Rob Hutchings (3-16) were the bowlers who did the damage for Chardstock, who won inside 20 overs. Gary Larcombe (37no) and Ed Pyman (22) led the way.
