TAVISTOCK signaled they mean business in the B Division promotion race when they won by five wickets at Ipplepen.

Pens were top of the shop going into round seven, but not anymore!

Bideford defeated Filleigh to go past Ipplepen into top spot. Pens are now joint second with Shobrooke Park with Tavistock only six points behind.

Shaun Daymonds said pre-match Tavvy need to win games like this to get among the front runners and stay there. The team delivered.

Ipplepen were all out for 210 in the last of their 45 overs – skipper Sam Wakeham having a lot to do with getting that many on the board.

The top five all got in, got settled and got out with no one making more than the brace of 18s posted by Dave Harris and Sam deFriend.

Wakeham went in at 100 for four and played another of the rapid innings that have made him feared by bowlers in recent seasons.

Ipplepen added 77 in 10 overs Wakeham batted. He scored 66 of them.

Jack Wylie (17) was there when Wakeham arrived and Joe Abbott at the other end when he went lbw to James McGahey.

In a stand of 45 for the sixth wicket with his captain, Abbott made four.

Tavistock shared the wickets round with two for skipper Daymond and three for Charloie Barriball, who returned at the end for a second bite of the cherry.

Tavistock were steered in the right direction by openers Billy Barriball (68) and Ian Gray (34) with a partnership worth 62.

Daymond was in and out cheaply, but Barriball kept going with Dave Manning (28), Aaron Churchill and brother Charlie until he was fifth out at 163.

Charlie Barriball went on to make 57 not out as he and Dylan Aucamp concluded the chase with more than 10 overs to spare.

Said Daymond: “We dominated the game in all departments.

“Our bowlers hit great areas and to get them all out for 210 on that wicket showed how well we bowled.

“Billy Barriball and Ian Gray made a great start, and Billy carried that through with a well-thought innings.

“Charlie Barriball showed his ability in the latter part of the game and took us home.”
