THE North Devon derby at Pebbleridge Road turned into something of a non-event as Bideford cruised to a six-wicket win over Filleigh in double-quick time.

Victory puts Bideford back on top of the table as former leaders Ipplepen lost to Seaton.

There isn’t much in it though as only eight points separate the top four of Bideford, Ipplepen, Shobrooke Park and Tavistock.

And as Bideford visit Tavistock this Saturday, the situation could easily change.

Filleigh are in the uncomfortable position of only having one win so far. They are one off the bottom of the table and nine points away from safety.  A win over bottom side Ottery this Saturday is a must.

Filleigh were all out for 131 at Bideford  - and only got that far thanks to skipper Simon Prideaux’s 45 batting at eight.

Rob Collier’s 23 was as good as it got in Filleigh’s running total of 59 for six – Josh Atkinson (3-38) and Jamie Lathwell (3-25) doing the damage.

Prideaux and Jack Brazier (10) put in 52 for the seventh wicket.

Mike Lemmings (2-17) knocked over the tail.

Bideford took less than 28 overs to knock off the runs, mostly scored by Jayson Bartolo.

Bartolo went in at 32 for two – Connor Nash (2-21) slowing Bideford up – and was still there unbeaten on 74 when the line was crossed.

Bideford were without skipper Paul Heard, who is hoping to return after injury this Saturday for the clash with Tavistock.

Filleigh skipper Prideaux said his side were largely the architects of their own misfortune.

"What can i say,” said Prideaux. “There are no excuses for a very poor batting performance on a good wicket with a fast outfield.

"All 10 wickets were caught, which tells a story. Our batsman, myself included, need to show more application.

"We were about 150 runs light and left with an impossible total to defend.

"Our bowlers stuck to their task but one partnership was all it took for Bideford to knock off the runs."
