HATHERLEIGH dropped two points in their five-wicket win over Plymstock – not that they will worry too much.

It is only the fifth dropped point of the season for Mark Lake’s side who have won eight on the trot – no rain-offs for them – and lead the A Division table by 33 points from Sandford.

There were certainly no complaints from skipper Lake – far from it.

“It was another good win on a pitch that was poor and very hard to score on and bought the teams closer together,” said Lake.

“I was very happy to get 18 points down there on a pitch that was very difficult.

“We bowled well as a group and gave them nothing.

Sean letheren really set the tone with the ball and the led the attack well.”

Defeat leaves Plymstock 29 points away from safety as the season approaches the halfway stage.

Plymstock used all their 50 overs to reach 111 for nine – Jack Horton taking more than an hour and half to compile a top score of 38.

Horton went in at 21 for two and shared stands of 20 with James Nicholls (11) and Charlie Martin (12) before he was sixth out at 91 in the 42nd over.

Hatherleigh’s bowlers put the ball on the spot from ball one. Sean Letheran had four wickets for 16 runs from 10 overs and Matt Tomas two for 16 from a similar spell.

Skipper Lake’s left-arm spin was almost unplayable if you were a Plymstock batter, He had one for 14 from eight overs.

Hatherleigh had the runs polished off inside 30 overs. Thomas (23) and Danny Forrester (37) got off to a 37-run start.

Thomas, Gareth Tidball and Rob Cockwill all came and went before Forrester was fourth out on 95, Rob Fishleigh and Charlie Nielson tied up the loose ends.

The wickets were shared one each among five bowlers. Nicholls (1-12), Bronte Bess (1-20) and Sayed Ali (1-21) gave Hatherleigh a few things to think about.
