SHOBROOKE Park dropped from second to fourth in the B Division rankings after their 87-run defeat at Seaton.

Seaton were bowled out for 171 with four balls to go – Joel Seward going in at 18 for ne and batting through to the end for an unbeaten 64.

Matt Hewer made 26 - he and Seward put on 34 for the second wicket – and tail-ender Phil Collins made 20.

Shobrooke had Seaton under the cosh at 68 for five and 118 for eight, but couldn’t fnish them off early.

Collins, who has form for hanging round at number 11, put on 38 for the last wicket with Seward.

Shobrooke’s wicket-taking was shared round with two each for Craig James, Ben Trenaman, Chris Simpson and James Bevan.

Shobrooke reached 22 without loss, then Ben Morgan trapped Chris Ford lbw and the batting collapsed in a heap.

Morgan (4-14) and Collins (2-11) reduced Shobrooke to 31 for five then 59 for nine. Last man Mike Searle made 16 to get the tally up to 84 all out.

Shobrooke host second-placed Tavistock this Saturday keen to put defeat behind them. They could go back up to second if they win, depending how Ipplepen do in their derby clash with Abbotskerswell.

Skipper Simpson felt Shobrooke were largely the architects of their own misfortunes.

“We should have bowled them out for a lot less than 170,” said Simpson.

“Our batting was disappointing. Mike Searle was the only highlight with 16 at the end.

“We just have to forget about this game and move on to to Tavistock this Saturday.”
