TOLCHARDS Devon League chairman Stuart Munday will be such a hard act to follow it will need two people to do his former job.

That is the decision of the league’s management committee, who have settled on a way forward for the competition following Stuart’s death in May.

Stuart, a retired businessman, had the time, skills, and considerable energy to devote to chairing league and operating as commercial manager. He was chairman for five years from 2012 until he died. The way ahead for the league will be to have a chairman and a commercial manager overseeing fund-raising activities.

Ed Leverton, the league secretary, said the practicalities of the new chairman having a full-time job, and working as a volunteer for the league, meant splitting the roles. A commercial manager has already been found; now the hunt is on for a chairman.

“Recognising the volume of work undertaken by Stuart, a decision has been made to separate the commercial and fund-raising elements of the role, from the leadership role as chairman of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League,” said Leverton.

“This has been possible thanks to a member of the committee, Richard Stevenson, offering to undertake the role of commercial and fundraising officer for the next 12-months.

“The league is now looking for a new chairman to take over in November.

“Phil Bees, the current vice-chair, has agreed to act as chairman until the annual meeting in November 24.”
