CORNWOOD are up to third in the A Division table thanks to a three-wicket won over lowly Chudleigh.

Chudleigh, hovering above the relegation places, were all out for 135 with seven balls to go.

Cornwood looked like they were going to win at a gallop when they were 96 for two in reply, Marc Roca (42) and Mo Salman (29) in the runs, but Chudleigh had other ideas.

Wickets tumbled to Rob Clarke (3-19) and Matt Heather (3-26) and it was a relieved team that flopped over the line with 14 balls to go.

Victory lifts Cornwood ahead of Budleigh Salterton, who lost to Plympton. They still have 30 points to make up on Sandford in second to reach the promotion places.

Matt Skeemer (4-25) had Chudleigh reeling at 37 for five before skipper Ed Foreman (53) and Mark Russell (23) changed the direction of travel.

Chudleigh recovered to 125 for six before Russell departed caught and bowled to Corns’ captain Elliot Staddon (3-29).

Matt Tamsett (2-8) picked off some straggles as Chudleigh’s last four wickets went for just eight runs.

Roca, Salman and Skeemer appeared to have everything under control until Heather and Clarke got stuck in.

Matt Butterworth dug in for 21 not out off 40 balls, and Owen Gannon made 14, to see Cornwood over the mini-crisis.
