IT’S ten out of 10 now at the top of the A Division for Hatherleigh after they hammered Ivybridge by nine wickets.

Hatherleigh have swept all before them so far this season and were always favourites to make it 10 on the spin after dismissing Ivybridge for 118.

The Ivybridge middle order just didn’t function as wickets fell regularly. Mark Lake (5-18) did most of the damage.

Jeewan de Silva made 22. Next best from the bat was George Thompson with 17. No partnership added more than 29.

Matt Thomas (62no) and Dan Forrester (28) made a 58-run dent in the deficit.

Harry Solomon split the openers, but with Gareth Tidball making an unbeaten 20 it was all finished and done in the 31st over.

Hatherleigh host fourth-placed Cornwood this Saturday a hefty 31 points clear of second-placed Sandford at the to.

Budleigh in third are 63 points further behind. If Hatherleigh keep winning – and beat Budleigh on July 29 – they could be promoted with a month of the season to go.

Hatherleigh were always favourites to defeat relegation worries Ivybridge, but skipper Lake said that shouldn’t detract from the quality of the win.

“After a ragged start with the ball we soon has Ivybridge under pressure and the game that was never in doubt,” said Lake.

“Matt Thomas led us well again with the bat and made the run chase very easy.

“A couple times in the last few weeks we have chased small totals the hard way.

“Twenty points on the road is always good no matter who your playing.”
