SKIPPER Adam Parker led the charge as Barton piled up the runs en-route to a big win over Ottery St Mary.

Barton’s position didn’t look great when they were 33 for four after running into early problems against Ottery skipper Will Harrison (3-41).

Parker, who had gone in at 20 for three, set about the Ottery bowling as he and Matt Needham put on 114 for the fourth wicket.

Parker finally went for 73 – 14 fours and a six – but Needham kept going to reach 51.

Getting Needham out didn’t do Ottery any favours as Mark Gilmour then tucked into their bowling with relish.

Gilmour was 77 not out off 46 balls – 10 fours, three sixes – in a Barton total of 255 for six.

Ottery’s change bowlers suffered under the lash. Dan Jeacock went for 81 in six overs.

Scott Bellamy (3-38) and Jon Martin (2-22) got into the Ottery early and middle order on a regular basis.

Opener Dan Flower hung round for 22 and Geoge Southall-Brown made 22 not out, but Ottery slid from 88 for four to 97 for eight then on to 138 all out.

Stuart Bowker wrapped things up with four wickets for 28 runs.

Victory gives Barton a 28-point cushion between them and the danger zone with a visit to Shobrooke Park looming this Saturday.

Winning skipper Parker said Barton have taken 10 weeks to play to their potential when theybat. Now he wants them to do it again.

“We managed to stop losing wickets in clusters and although we didn't have a brilliant start the middle order knuckled down and built partnerships which gave us a good platform to push on from,” said Parker.

“It was the perfect environment for Gilmour to come in as he can take the game away from anyone in that situation.

“Bowling wise we did really well and were able to create enough pressure to force mistakes

“We have to build on it now.”

Ottery skipper Harrison was clear where it all went wrong.

“We failed to capitalise on a good start to our bowling innings and that meant we were chasing too high a total,” said Harrison.
