SHOBROOKE Park arrested their slide down the B Division table with a 53-run win over Barton in a game interupted by rain.

Shobrooke rattled along to 339 in their 45 overs – opener Dan Robbins taking the Barton attack for 134.

Barton were asked to score 333 to win following a rain stoppage, and gave it a good go.

The Torquay batted all the way down, but ran out of time at 280 all out.

Victory leaves Shobrooke on the periphery of the promotion race in fifth, 19 points behind second-placed Ipplepen going into this Saturday’s match at Abbotskerswell.

Shobrooke put together some sizeable partnerships with opener Robbins the main man. His 134 off 95 balls – 14 fours, seven sixes – included stands of 71 with Dan Maytum (26), 49 with skipper Chris Simpson and 134 with Kiwi Craig James.

James lashed 94 off 60 balls, putting on 58 in a hurry with Andrew Codling (27).

“It was the best we have batted all season with the two Dans getting us off to a great start then Dan Robbins going on to his first hundred for the club,” said Simpson.

Barton’s bowlers all suffered, although Adam Parker and Stuart Bowker had the consolation of a couple of wickets.

Opener Shaun Needham (36) made the early runs for Barton, then Callum Moses (23) and Adam Parker (52) took over.

Robbins (2-33), Simpson (2-56) and James took wickets at vital times to stop Barton building big stands.

Jon Martin (37), Mark Gilmour (40) and Ian Jarman (24no) kept going long after many sides would have run out batting.

The target proved too many though and Barton were all out for 280 with 14 balls to go.

“We shared around the wickets all in great win - let's hope the batting keeps up,” said Simpson.
