CLYST Hydon are under pressure to beat Alphington this Saturday after a 26-run defeat by Feniton dropped them down to fifth in the C East table.
Hydon have now lost three on the trot since beating Braunton by 91 runs, dropping them down to fifth in the table.
To get back in the promotion race Hydon need to start winning in a hurry – and if they keep losing they could get dragged into the relegation fight.
Three go down this season and the gap between Hydon and the drop spots is 31 points – not much of a safety net.
Feniton were all out for 273 in the last of their 45 overs – Chris May top scoring on 57.
May and opener Mark Kingdon (46) put on 116 for the second wicket after Mark Salter went cheaply.
Ben Allen held the middle order together on his way to 42, aided by lots of chip ins and huge amount of extras.
On top of 34 wides were 29 byes in a sundries total of 67 – a figure that came back to haunt Hydon skipper Ian Sutton.
Rumseh Batagodage bowled nine over for figures of three for 24.
Sutton scored a century in even time as Hydon reached 209 for four.
Along the way Sutton put on 72 with Mark Ashplant (32), 88 with Maligawe Sinharage (23) and 48 with Batagodage (29).
Hydon had wickets in hand but were falling behind the asking rate with Jon French (2-26) and Matt Davies (0-22) hard to get away.
Hydon were 247 for six when the overs ran out.
CULLOMPTON are feeling the heat underneath them in the C Division promotion race following a six-wicket defeat by title rivals Alphington.
Jason Parr made 93 in Cullompton’s total of 242 all out, which Alphington knocked off with more than six overs to go.
That’s two defeats on the trot now for Cully, whose runaway lead at the top has been trimmed to eight points.
The team behind them are Alphington, who have now done the double over Cully to underline their promotion credentials.
If Cully don’t win against Clyst St George this Saturday, and Alphington see off Clyst Hydon, the pressure will be on James Blackmore’s men.
Darren Paul (43) and Blackmore (26) gave Cully a 57-run start with Brendon Parr (22) helping the total along to 107 for two.
Four wickets went for 21 runs – Josh Grzyb (3-68) and Joby Matthew (5-32) doing the damage – until Jason Parr got a grip
Parr – 13 fours and four sixes – was ninth out on 239.
Luke Phillips put Alphington on the road to victory with a brisk 108 at the top of the order. The score was 138 for three when he got out to Blackmore (2-38), who had Craig Grabham in the same over.
Any worries about a collapse were quickly dispelled as Mark Porter (59no) and Tom Bath (57no) put on 108 unbroken to win the game.
A SEVEN-wicket defeat at the hands of Kilmington has dropped Clyst St George into relegation danger.
St George made a respectable 251 for seven in 45 overs – Sam Cooper hitting the top score of 75.
Josh Short and Alex Rockett both made scores in the 80s as Kilmington hurtled to victory with 11 overs to spare.
Defeat drops St George into the bottom three as Uplyme trounced Countess Wear to go past them.
An opening stand of 110 between Chris Ferro (47) and Sam Cooper (75) gave Clyst a good start.
Youngter Sam Read went in at first wicket down and held the middle order together with 69.
Read was fourth out on 220 – one of two wickets for Josh Short (2-41).
Kilmington lost opener Sean Perry in the second over, but Clyst’s jubilation didn’t last long.
Short (89) and Rockett (81) put on 172 for the second wicket as Clyst chased leather. Matt Rockett (28) and Tom Gooding (24) tied up the loose ends.
COUNTESS WEAR’S relegation worries deepened in the aftermath of a 74-run defeat by Uplyme & Lyme Regis.
Uplyme totted up 269 for eight with Mark Batey (75) and Steve Batey (53) the prime run getters. Jed Whittington chipped in with 32.
Par Singh had two wickets. Three batters were run out.
Kav Dias opened with 69 for the Wear and took the to 128 for three on the chase. After Dias only Gavin Darke (28) made much headway as Rhys Davies (3-28) ran through the middle order, leaving Steve Batey (2-36) and Liam Gorfine (3-43) to snipe through the stragglers.
Defeat means the Wear are one off the bottom with third-placed Feniton to play this Saturday.
WHIMPLE defeated bottom side Braunton by six-wickets to move ahead of Clyst Hydon and into the top four.
Braunton had half their side out with 45 on the board – Neil Maud (3-23) and Simon Harris (2-20) doing the damage – and an early exit beckoned.
Joe Barnes (35) and skipper Dan Brierley (34) inspired a comeback that got Braunton up to 169 all out.
Whimple had nearly nine overs left when they crossed the finishing line.
Ben Silk (34) and Kevin Thompson set the ball rolling with a stand of 61, leaving Leigh Lorenzen (50no) to see it through, aided an abetted by Duncan McConachie (25).
