Trevor Anning - he and brother Phil posed problems for the Bridge

IVYBRIDGE hoisted themselves a little further from the A Division drop zone with a five-wicket in in a rain-affected encounter with Budleigh Salterton at Ottermouth.

Budleigh recovered from an unimpressive 50 for five to make 115 all out in the 4nd over.

Jamie Bullock (3-18) and Harry Solomon (4-15) did most of the damage, leaving slim pickings for Jeewan deSilva (2-17).

Ben Carter (26) and Phil Anning (25) gave the Budleigh bowlers fighting chance.

Another rain break meant the target came down to 69 off 30 overs – which Ivybridge got after a struggle.

For Ivybridge it was a bonus win as none of the teams around them played and only picked up six points. The Bridge got 12 more than that and are now 18 points clear of the bottom two.

Kelvin Trent, the Ivybridge captain, said winning the toss was helpful to winning the match.

“I won the toss and we bowled mainly due to the weather as the pitch was good for batting and bowling,” said Trent.

“Up top we bowled really well and took early wickets and backed ourselves by fielding really well.

“Chasing a reduced target due to rain we lost early wickets again, something we need to rectify if we are to win more games.

“After seeing off their opening bowlers we got over the line with nearly three overs to spare. A good team performance.”

PLYMPTON’S game at Chudleigh was abandoned in the 16th over with the home side on 80 for one. The man out was opener Mark Solway to Alex Carr.
