DEVON Under-17 Girls lost by 32 runs to Somerset on an overcast day at Torquay.

Devon won the toss and put Somerset into bat and for the first five overs restricted the visitors to just 11 runs.

Things were looking good for Devon with positive fielding and wickets were taken early, Rose ball (4-24), taking two in her first over.

Somerset were 56 for four in the 13th over before runs started to flow for with seven and eight an over.

Katie Donovan (9-0-32-1) began to stem the flow in her second spell as Somerset ended their innings on 188-9.

Devon did not start too well with the loss of their first wicket in the second over and their second in the fourth!

Struggling to up the run rate, Devon continued to lose wickets.

When Maddie Holifield (34) was bowled in the 40th over and the run-rate increased to 10 an over, the task looked impossible.

Devon batted their overs for 156, but Somerset won by 32 runs.

Though there was very little difference in the bowling and fielding between Devon and Somerset, Devon fell short on batting power.
