Up for grabs - the Corinthian Cup

CULLOMPTON will be going for the double today in the Ivor Dewdney-sponsored Corinthian Cup finals day at Shaldon.

Cully are already assured of promotion from the C Division East as champions - their second promotion under skipper James Blackmore - despite yesterday's defeat by Braunton.

Cully square up to Abbotskerswell at 10.00 am in the first semi-final of the competition, which is now played using a T20 format, not the traditional 16 eight-ball overs of yesteryear.

Cullompton are heading for the B Division next season, where Abbotskerswell are riding high right now, so skipper James Blackmore sees the game as a benchmark for his side.

'It will be a good indication of how we will shape up next season,' said Blackmore.

'We know Seaton and Filleigh, who went up this year, and compare reasonably well strength wise with them.

'Looking forward to the challenge.'

Abbots got over a pool game defeat by fancied Babbacombe to beat Upottery to reach the last four.

The second semi-final is between Seaton and Ipplepen. It gets under way at 1.00 pm.

Ipplepen won their quarter-final against Babbacombe to qualify for the last four.

Seaton accounted for Alphington, last season's losing finalists, to reserve their place at finals day.

The final is scheduled for a 4.00 pm start.
