Key messages for League Clubs

The following are the highlights and key messages from the presentation given by the DCL Management Team and DACO at Friday evening’s. Distribution meeting.  They provide a brief overview of what was discussed and, where appropriate, actions we’d ask clubs to take.

Devon Cricket League Management Board

We are still seeking nominations from Club Chairman to join the new Board.  The Board will meet no more than 3 times a year to have an overview of and give approval to major items of League policy.

If you are interested then please contact secretary@devoncricketleague.co.uk

Disciplinary Matters

Our current Disciplinary Code, as published in the 2016 handbook, will be changing over the next 12 months to align more closely with the ECB Model Disciplinary Code for Premier Leagues. The League will aim to be in a position to implement the new code in 2017.

What will it mean for my club?

Clubs will be asked, in the first instance, to take immediate action when notified of a disciplinary complaint.  Please check and ensure that your club has a robust disciplinary code.  If you need further information then please contact Gavin Lane gavinbdlane@gmail.com

Throughout 2016 we will be keeping all member clubs update with developments under this heading.  This may mean training opportunities for both Club Chairmen and Club Captains.

Playing Offer / Player survey

We know that the game continues to haemorrhage players.  This often shows as clubs conceding games of cricket when they are unable to raise a team.  The League needs to ensure that the right format of cricket (including start time, number of overs, level of competition) is offered.

To achieve this we will again be conducting a player survey in 2016 and need your help in getting as many of your members to complete it as possible.

We need to put together a small working group to manage the process.  We already have a number of volunteers – but if you have a view on cricket in the DCL please join us.  Contact secretary@devoncricketleague.co.uk

We’d like to get the working group started in early May.  The survey will be live during June / July.   We’ll ‘crunch the data’ during August and present the findings to clubs at the Division Meetings in early October.  Where appropriate proposals can then go to a General Meeting of the DCL.

Play-Cricket.com

Will replace the old Results Sheet and will be used from the start of the 2016 League season.

Clubs must ensure that their Play-Cricket websites are ready and have populated them with their members.

Results will be displayed on the new Devon Cricket website at http://s604625581.websitehome.co.uk/page.php?Id=140    - the site goes live today.

Please see Rule 15 on page 99 of the new 2016 Devon Cricket League handbook for timings for completion of reporting, and confirming, of League matches.

Play-Cricket will be used across the Devon Cricket League.  If you need guidance, or are uncertain of how Play-Cricket works, please contact your DCL Results Secretary (see page 8 of the new handbook)
