SANDFORD easily picked up the two points they needed to clinch the A Division title when they took all 20 off Ivybridge in a six-wicket win.

Jeewan de Silva made 55 and there were chip-ins by Josh Zimmerman (28) and Josh Coker (23) to a below-par Ivybridge total of 128 all out.

Jamie Palmer (3-14 off 10) led the bowling effort, aided by two wickets each for Ryan Glass, Pete Steer and Ben Clements.

Sandford lost opener Adrian Small cheaply, but batted in pairs to knock off the runs.

Richard Foan (29) and Charles Fitzroy (27) got the score up to 72 for three, leaving Ryan Glass (46no) to see Sandford through to the win that earned them the title with a game to go.

“It was another good win,” said skipper Foan.

“Jamie Palmer bowled really well at the start, taking early wickets, and Ryan Glass finished the game off with the bat.

Sandford go to relegated Plymstock this Saturday in their final game of the season.

HATHERLEIGH clinched the second promotion place out of the A Division when they beat doomed Plymstock by eight wickets.

Plymstock were all out for 145 – a better total than looked likely when they were 35 for five after a duffing up from Sean Letheren (4-20).

Josh Sumner made 83 off 50 balls – eight fours, five sixes – to stave off total collapse. Mark Lake (3-22) and Matt Thomas (2-51) spun out the lower order.

Hatherleigh made an inauspicious start – they were 14 for two – but Gareth Tidball (54) and Ryan Davies (62) saw the chase through with an unbroken stand of 134.

Sandford are up as champions after their win over Ivybridge. Hatherleigh, the runners-up, are heading back to Premier cricket after an absence of 27 summers.

Skipper Lake knows it is a big step, but forward planning will wait until the current season is over.

For now Lake and his team-mates want to celebrate what they have achieved, which included a four-match losing run that threatened to derail their promotion push.

“On the whole we have played good cricket most of the season and the Plymstock game was no different,” said Lake.

“We kept them to a small total on a decent track and after we lost a couple early we made the chase look very easy.

“I am proud of all the lads and the hard work they have put in all season.”

Plymstock go straight back down after coming up as champions with Ivybridge as their runners-up.

Skipper Scott Mansfield, who will be stepping down at the end of the season after three seasons at the helm, said scoring runs has been the problem right from day one.

Plymstock dismissed Plympton for 128, but were bowled out for 114 in reply.

“If we compare last seasons runs scored by individual batsman, there lies the biggest issue with our performances over the season,” said Mansfield.

“We had three batsmen with more than 400 runs last year, this year we haven't had anyone pass 300 as yet.”

CHUDLEIGH slumped to an eight-wicket defeat against Budleigh Salterton, who bowled them out for 106 and needed less than 17 overs to knock-off the runs.

Openers Mark Solway (28) and Grant Stone (54) gave Chudleigh an 80-run start, which doesn’t say much for the efforts of the rest.

Five batters didn’t make a run between them as Max Waller (4-18), Matt Junk (2-11) and Trevor Anning (2-13) scythed through the batting.

Junk (50no) and Ed Doble (44no) took Budleigh home after they had been 29 for two in reply.

Chudleigh, safe from any threat of relegation, visit Cornwood this Saturday.

Budleigh, nailed on to finish third for the fourth year in a row, are at home to Plympton.

PLYMPTON are safe for another season in the A Division thanks to a four-wicket win over visiting Lewdown.

There were three wickets each for Hakeem Abdullah (3-22) and creaking off-spinner Keith Donohue (3-22) as Plympton dismissed Lewdown for 140.

Take away Dinecho Visser’s 67 off 108 balls and Tom Pearce’s 20 and there wasn’t much from the rest.

Plympton were an unimpressive 60 for five in reply after Pearce (2-32) and Visser (2-41) got into the early order.

Justin Wubbeling found some form at just the right time, hitting 58 not out in stand of 73 with Dave Wrench (27) that took Plympton in touching distance of the target.

With one game to go – Budleigh, away – Plympton can’t be overtaken by second-bottom Brixham.

CORNWOOD may have nothing to play for now – promotion hasn’t been on the agenda for weeks – but Brixham were motivated by the threat of relegation and beat the Corns by 36 runs.

Mark Orchard top scored for Brixham with 70 in their all-out total of 175. George Northcott chipped in with 22.

Spin worked best for Cornwood with Matt Tamsett and Elliot Staddon claiming three wickets each.

Cornwood were all out in reply for 139, Matt Butterworth’s 37 as good as it go.

Orchard capped a good day all round with three for 24 and Tom Blundell picked up a couple of scalps.

Orchard is unavailable for the game against Ivybridge this Saturday due to family commitments.

A further blow for Brixham is that South African batsman Jason Oaks is returning home a week early to start preparing for the domestic season with KwaZulu-Natal.
