FORMER Sidmouth club-mates Hilton Cartwright and Dom Bess came face to face when Perth Scorchers played England Lions in warm-up matches ahead of the Big Bash T20 tournament.

Hilton Cartwright during his 2010 season with SidmouthCartwright, who was Sidmouth’s overseas player in the Devon League in 2010, was batting up the order for Perth Scorchers. Since leaving Sidmouth the 25 year old has become a regular in the Western Australia side and played in two Tests and two one-day internationals.

Bess, 20 years old and now a rising star with Somerset, was in the England Lions team out in Australia for a pre-Christmas training camp.

Part England’s schedule is three T20 games against the Scorchers to help them prepare for the KFC T20 Big Bash, which starts next week.

In the two games so far – the third and last is on Friday in Perth – honours are just about even.

England won the first game by 12 runs despite Cartwright making 56 as Scorchers came up short chasing 161 to win. Bess didn’t bat, but did dismiss Aussie T20 batter Ashton Turner when he bowled.

Scorchers won game two by six runs after totalling 148 for five. Cartwright made 13. Bess went for 23 in three overs.

The Lions were all out for 142 in reply, Bess making three off four balls before Mitchell Johnson ran him out.
