SANDFORD were reminded you get few second chances in the Premier Division in a three-wicket defeat at Sidmouth.

Sandford were bowled out for 186 with 10 balls to go Ryan Glass (44) just pipping Chris Simpson (42) as top scorer.

Sidmouth went from cruising at 101 for one to reeling at 126 for seven after a burst of wicket taking by Sandford skipper Richard Foan and Jamie Palmer.

Nick Gingell played an uncharacteristically restrained innings of 25 off 46 balls to get Sidmouth over the line.

Skipper Foan felt it would not have taken much more for Sandford to put a tick in wins-for column.

“I walked away a bit disappointed that we didn't get a result in the end,” said Foan.

“We managed to get back in the game and nearly snatched it.

“Not batting our 50 overs probably cost us in the end as another 20 runs could have made the difference.”

The key stands for Sandford were 50 for the second wicket between Foan (24) and Glass, 43 for the third between Glass and veteran Adrian Small (25) and 38 for the sixth while Simpson was batting with Marc Bettis.

Will Murray took three Sandford wickets and there were two each for Tom Simmons and Aviwe Mgijima.

Elliot Rice (52) and Luke Bess (29) were 78-run partners as Sidmouth got over the early loss of Matt Cooke.

Once Bess went it was open season on Sidmouth batters as five went for 25 runs added. Gingell stopped the slide, aided and abetted by Robbie Powell (12) and Will Murray (17no).

Winning skipper Luke Bess said: “We bowled well and broke a couple of partnerships when needed and managed to keep them under 200.

“We were looking solid at 101 for one but then collapsed. A good innings from Nick Gingell got us over the line.”
