CORNWOOD carried too much firepower for Budleigh Salterton, running out comfortable winners by 131 runs at Ottermouth on day one.

The Corns totted up 195 for six with Mo Salman top scoring on 66.

Salman faced 100 balls and put on 34 for the third wicket with Aaron Richards (39) and 95 for the sixth with Craig Harris (41).

James  Leat (3-49) was the most successful of the Budleigh bowlers wickets wise, although Joel Murphy (0-28) and Trevor Anning (1-33) were cheap to run in their 10 overs.

Budleigh nosedived to 10 for four then 27 for eight in reply and were only going to get crumbs after that.

Eighteen extras given away by Cornwood were more than any total made by a Budleigh batsman.

Marc Troman made 10, and there was a brace of nines for tail-enders Luke Jefferson and Sean Butler.

The wickets were shared round with two each for skipper Matt Skeemer, the Goodliffe brothers, Adam and Josh, and Harris.

Winning skipper Skeemer said batting sensibly was the key to victory.

“Aaron Richards, Salman and Craig Harris were all superb,” said Skeemer.

“I was really happy with the way we batted - then every bowler bowled well.

“It was a great result to start our season, Hopefully, we can carry on from there.”
