CORNWOOD carried too much firepower for Brixham in a lop-sided affair at Boundary Park.

Mo Salman and Matt Butterworth both hit half-centuries is Cornwood clocked up 263 for eight in 50 overs.

In-form spinner Matt Tamsett then took three later wickets to dismiss Brixham for 112 in reply and earn Cornwood a 20-point maximum.

The season could not have started much better for the Corns, who are joint top with Torquay on 58 points from 60 available in the first three games.

Cornwood made a shaky start as openers Owen Gannon and Aaron Richards went cheaply.

Skipper Matt Skeemer (33) stabilised the situation then Salman (69) and Butterworth (51) added exactly 100 for the fourth wicket.

Dan Bullock (2-35) made a couple of breakthroughs, but Shahzaz Ahmad (45no) kept the lower order strong to the end.

Brixham struggled to put any meaningful partnerships together in the top half as wickets fell to Skeemer (2-23) and Ahmad (2-13) on a regular basis.

Tim Robinson (26) and Rhys Dallow (26) did put on 29, but that took the running total of a below par 98 for six.

Tamsett (3-13) picked off the tail enders as Brixham dipped out in the 41st over.

Winning skipper Skeemer said: "I was very pleased with how positively we batted and how well we paced our innings.

"All the bowlers then bowled really well on a good pitch and to bowl them out for what we did was a great effort."
