South Devon - aiming to make it three wins this Saturday at Yelverton.

SOUTH Devon will be aiming for a third straight win this Saturday when they take on Yelverton Bohemians.

James Allen’s side are up to fifth in the D Division West table following a 28-run win over visiting Kenn.

Anthony Bingley was the man of the moment with the bat for South Devon with 52 in what seemed a modest total of 147 all out.

Modest it may have been but the total was enough to beat Kenn, who were bowled out for 119 in reply.

Man of the moment with the ball for South Devon was Dave Knowles, whose five-wicket haul won the game.

Knowles (25) and skipper James Allen (19) got the early runs for South Devon, who were 39 for three when Bingley went in.

Bingley, who hit 10 fours and faced 50 balls, was sixth out at 135.

Kenn’s bowlers dominated the latter stages of the South Devon innings. James Mason (3-30) did his share of the damage as the last five wickets went for 12 runs.

Opener Ben Challoner was the anchorman Kenn tried to build their chase round.

While wickets fell at one end, Challoner kept going at the other, reaching 76 in a running total of 109 for eight.

Knowles was already on his way to five for 31 when Challoner picked out sticky-fingered Morgan Hargreaves at point. The end wasn’t long coming after that.

PLYMOUTH 2ndXI are up and running in the D Division West thanks to a hefty win over visiting Barton.

Steve Luffman’s crew lost their first two games and were hovering a bit too close to the bottom three relegation spots for comfort.

Plymouth were always in the driving seat after cracking along to 282 for five in their 45 overs.

Jon Cummings, out fifth ball, was the only batsman to miss out as Plymouth racked up the runs.

Dan Moore (50) and skipper Luffman (80) put on 76 runs for the third wicket.

Luffman and 15 year old Adam Talbott (39) put on 86 for the fourth wicket and a brisk 46 by Richard Goldsby-West kept the board whirring in the late overs.

Jack Bell (2-35) was the pick of the bowlers for youthful Barton.

Barton were all out for 102 in reply, no one making more than Bell (34).

Barton’s best partnership was one of 27 between Adrian Lipton (11) and Bell.

Talbott – Plymouth College-coached and one to watch for the future – took five Barton wickets for 25 runs.

PLYMOUTH CS&R came off distinctly second best when they ran into promotion chasers Stoke Gabriel.

Dan Winsor made 34 and with 32 from skipper Nick Read and a snappy 31 not out by Al Stewart, Civil mustered 167 for eight.

Nick Gwynne (3-21) shaded the bowling stats for Stoke.

Unbeaten half centuries for Connor Bryan (62no) and Andy Kingdon (51no) steered Stoke to an eight-wicket win.

Civil remain winless at the bottom of the table; Stoke are second behind Paignton at the top.

PAIGNTON’S Smith didn’t miss out a second time when he had a ton in his sights.

Smith was unluckily out for 99 in Paignton IIs opening game of the season, a win over Roborough.

Smith made no mistake against Torquay in the derby clash last Saturday, piling up 115 not out in Paignton’s total of 289 for four.

A stand of 126 with Jason Woodcock (56) got the innings off to a flier.

Torquay were all out for 124 in reply. Skipper and opener Tim Western made 66. No one else got past the 13 made by Tim’s son Dan.

Bowling wise for Paignton it was a good day for the Medlocks. Dad Tony had five for 19 and lad Rory took four for 29.

YELVERTON took the spoils in the Moorland derby clash against Whitchurch.

Josh Meadows top scored for Whitchurch with 39 in their all-out total of 186. Nigel Barriball made 32 and Mark Gibbs was 30 not out.

Tom Richards dominated the bowling returns for Yelverton with six wickets for 47 runs.

Geoff Brain (58) and James Cooper (35) led the Yelverton run chase. Richards (24no) was still there at the end.

Yelverton are up to third having moved above Torquay II. Whitchurch are one place above the relegation places.
