CORWOOD cruised to a seven-wicket win over Abbotskerswell that puts them out on their own at the top of the A Division table.

The Corns were joint leaders with Torquay going into round four in an all-unbeaten top three that included Paignton as well.

As Torquay were at home to Paignton something had to give – and it was Torquay’s unbeaten record that went.

Cornwood (77pts) top the shop from Paignton (75) and Torquay (66) with Plympton (49) back in fourth.

It could all change again this Saturday as Cornwood are at home to Paignton. Torquay visit table-proppers Chudleigh.

Opener James Westlake top scored for Abbotskerswell with 59 in their total of 202 for nine.

Westlake put on 72 with Ricky Small-Boyce (27) and 43 with Nick Watkin (33). When Westlake fell to Matt Tamsett (2-31), Sam Johnston (20) and Charlie Hill (18) kept the board ticking if not spinning round.

Adam Goodliffe (4-46) and Josh Goodliffe (2-27) picked up wickets in the second half.

Cornwood chewed up the target in bite-sized chunks, staring with openers Owen Gannon (15) and Aaron Richards (32) polishing off the first 44.

Richards and Ryan Rickard (41) bit off another 52 runs and by the time Rickard got out Cornwood were on the last course.

Mo Salman (35no) and skipper Matt Skeemer (34no) put on 58 unbroken to win the game with more than three overs to go.

Winning captain Skeemer said it was another good performance by his side.

He added: “Abbots batted well and got off to a good start, but we were happy with the score we kept them to.

“I felt we paced our chase brilliantly and every batter did their job.”
