Fred King - wickets for Bideford against Ivybridge

IVYBRIDGE came off decidedly second best when they ran into Bideford and lost by 133 runs.

Bideford’s top five batters all made sizeable contributions to a total of 243 for five.

James Ford (46) and Tom Brend opened up with 62 and Ford stayed round long enough to add another 54 with Ollie Hannam (45).

Hannam and Paul Heard (31) were good value for 48 more – and in the latter stages Alex Hannam (41) and Jack Ford (15) put on 51.

George Berry (2-33) was the only Ivybridge bowler to take more than one wicket.

Ivybridge were soon in trouble at six four three and 23 for four was barely an improvement.

Zimbabwean Charles Kunje (64) resisted for 76 balls while wickets fell regularly at the other end.

Skipper Harry Solomon (15) and tail-ender Berry (12) delayed the inevitable, which came when the Bridge were all out for 110 in the 40th over.

Fred King (2-19) took wickets up top, Josh Atkinson (3-31) got into the middle order and Steve Bond 92-14) claimed the last two, which included Kunje.

Winning captain Heard said it was a solid team effort in all departments.

“It was the performance we had talked about and managed to execute well in all disciplines,” he said.

“Everyone who batted contributed, but particular praise should go to Tom Brend at the top of the innings and Alex Hannam at the back, although everyone else's performances cannot be overlooked.

“The bowlers did a fantastic job to put their batters under pressure at the start and it showed as we took regular wickets. “

That’s three defeats in four starts now for the Bridge with a derby date with Plympton on the horizon.

Worried skipper Solomon said: “Out batting department isn’t firing at the moment and players’ availability isn’t helping.”
