Blast! Unhappy captain Richard Baggs

BOVEY Tracey handed out an eight-wicket hiding to Exmouth on their way to a third win on the bounce.

Exmouth, who were short handed due to the absence of Bob Dawson, Ben Twine and Sam Harris, were bowled out for 116.

Exmouth were in a mess at three for five early in the third over and needed someone to dig in. Miles Lenygon obliged, but support was thin on the ground.

Lenygon, the former Exeter captain, made 73 off 94 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. He was ninth out on 109, one of four wickets for Bovey skipper Toby Codd (4-33).

Chris Bradley spun his way to three wickets for 33 runs.

Bovey’s start was inauspicious as they were 27 for two by the end of the fifth over. They didn’t lose another wicket.

Josh Mailling (34no) and Minhaj Jalill (55) had the win wrapped up with time to spare in the 20th over.

Bovey are now sixth in the table of ten and have closed the gap on leaders Sidmouth to 25 points, which could change this Saturday when the two sides meet on the Fortfield.

Codd, Bovey’s rookie captain, is clearly thinking big after a third straight win.

“It is great to have turned our season around,:” said Codd

“We knew Exmouth would come hard at us and all our bowlers were excellent and bowled well to plans.

“There is still work to do in the field and we will keep working hard.

“We still want to climb the table further and there's no reason we can't challenge for those top spots.”

Exmouth skipper Baggs didn’t mince his words in the wake of the defeat.

“To be honest we were nothing short of embarrassing,” said Baggs.

“Apart from Miles we batted pathetically with weak dismissals, myself very much top of that list with loose shots.

“We need to learn to score ugly runs very quickly!
“We have had a very honest team talk after the games and changes will be made to personnel and order.”
