Tschepo Legodi

CRICKETER Tshepo Legodi’s crack at the Virgin London Marathon has raised more than £700 so far for Leukaemia Care.

Legodi, who has played for Tavistock, Exeter and now Shaldon in a long league career, tackled the marathon distance for the first time last Sunday.

It took him a bit longer than expected, but raising charity cash was always his primary goal.

‘I didn't really get the time I wanted - I was initially aiming for four hours or less –  but it was by far one the best things I've been part of for a long time,’ said Legodi.

‘I think the fact that I did all the training is what made sure I made it all the way to finish line - at least I did not ‘hit the wall’.

‘I finished in four hours and 26 minutes, not bad for a first marathon, and now I have a target time to improve on.’

Legodi said running the London Marathon is an experience never to be forgotten – and he would like to have another go.

‘The atmosphere from start to finish was just amazing and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who's not afraid to run,’ he said.

‘I thought after the race I would be saying ‘never again’, but I enjoyed it so much I will definitely be doing another one, if not next year the one after.’

Donations have been coming in since the race ended and Legodi has not given up hope of reaching his £2,000 target.

‘So far the pot is just over £700, so still a long way to the target, and I will be planning some fund-raising events in the form of auctions to help raise the rest,’ he said.
