IT was dad against lad when Ashburton visited Bovey Tracey IIs – and it was the lad whose side came out on top!

The lad in question was Bradley Causey, who played for Bovey Tracey and chipped in 15 runs towards their total of 217 all out.

Dad Martin Causey was in his usual place in the Ashburton top five and he made 13 in their reply of 183 all out.

Mum Cath sensibly stayed neutral: she was in the kitchen lending a hand preparing tea!

Derek Perry helped himself to 50 and George Pitman chipped in 32 towards Bovey’s total.

New Zealander Akif Sohail (4-41) was easily the pick of Ashburton’s bowlers.

Ashburton lost opener Lloyd White two balls in, but recovered to 123 for two thanks to Tony Lacey (44) and skipper Ashley Berry (60).

Berry went first, followed by Lacey at 148 for four. Then it all went pear-shaped for Ashburton.

Their last six wickets tumbled for 28 runs as Oliver Clifford-Bourne (3-44) and Taylor Ingham-Hill combined to condemn Ashburton to a 34-run defeat.

PLYMPTON II are still looking for their first league win of the season following a 204-run defeat at Kingsbridge.

James Fletcher took 117 off the Plympton attack and with Ashley Treeby (69) weighing in they reached 322 for five.

Jason Degg made 38 not out in Plympton’s reply, and Tobin Barker made 31, in an all-out total of 118.

Spinner Bhanu daSilva (5-8) did most of the damage with the ball for Kingsbridge.

DARTINGTON & Totnes are sitting comfortably in mid-table after beating Lewdown by 28 runs.

Chris Cook went in at 40 for two and stroked 73 not out as D&T advanced to 219 for si in 45 overs.

Along the way there were stands of 87 with Alex Hartridge (49) and 36 with Andrew Bligh (22).

Nick Smith (3-46) took the wickets for Lewdown. Harry Williams (0-27 off 9) kept it tight.

Lewdown lost opener Dave Ball in the first over, but chipped away at the target as Harry Geering (32), Ollie Brown (54), Tom Pengelly (32) and Ed Squire (30) got up to 183 for five.

The game turned D&T’s way when skipper Harold Stephenson brought James Howrihane into the attack.

Five wickets fell for eight runs added – Howrihane taking four of them for six runs – as Lewdown collapsed to 191 all out in the last over.

SHALDON edged further away from the C Division West danger zone thanks to a comfortable six-wicket win over Bridestowe.

The safety margin is now two places and 19 points going into Saturday’s halfway game against Cornwood II.

Opener Gary Sizmur top scored with 88 not out for Bridestowe in a total of 207 for nine. Stand of the day was one of 66 for the third wicket with Mark Fogerty (28).

Ryan Bougourd (3-31) and Carl Woolnough (3-26) were Shaldon’s best bowlers.

Dan Woolnough (23) got early runs then Todd Ballman and Karl Blackburn came together at 44 for three and set about winning the game.

By the time Blackburn was dismissed for 78 the target was 25 to win. Ballman (69no) clinched the win with more than seven overs in hand.

CORNWOOD II carried too much firepower all round for Chagford, running up a hefty total of 354 for six then dismissing the Moorlanders for 66 in reply.

Jack Richardson’s run of form continued with a knock of 125 and there were chip-ins from Luke Richardson (45) and Nathaniel Bell (36).

Chagford were soon in trouble against Jamie Bailey (3-15), Wickets were shared round as Cornwood crusied to a 288-run win that moves them into mid-table in the C Division West
