STOKE Gabriel shot to the top of the D Division West after hammering Torquay II by 192 runs at the Recreation Ground.

The Villagers totted up 323 for five in their 45 overs  - Aussie Nick Gwynne making an unbeaten 166.

Andy Kingdon scored 52 against his father’s former club and Seb Ansley swiped 36 from 12 balls. Torquay were all out for 131 in reply.

Yelverton, who were top, drop down to second place after they lost by seven wickets at Kenn.

Yelverton are off the top of the D Division West after they were beaten by seven wickets at Kenn.

Giles Beauchamp made a to score of 73 for Yelverton in their total of 214 for nine. Next best was James Casey (27).

The Thomas brothers – Jack (3-40) and Ollie (2-26) – took the bowling honours for Kenn.

Ben Chaloner (83) and James Gosling (83no) made light work of the run chase.

Plymouth II are up to third behind Yelverton courtesy of their five-wicket win over nine-man Plymouth CS&R.

Civil were skittled out for just 62 – and Jack Dent made 42 not out of those.

There were four wickets each for Dave Burke (4-7) and Hadleigh Scott-Kirk (4-16).

Bits and pieces saw Plymouth home, Rob Bennett making more than the rest.

Barton II are out of the relegation places for the first time this season thanks to a two-run win over Whitchurch Wayfarers.

It was Barton’s third straight win and lifts them six points away from the drop spots.

Barton made 147 for nine thanks to 51 from Tom Porter and a whopping 54 extras, which included 38 wides.

Darren Sambells and Richard Potts took three wickets each for Whitchurch.

Potts (53) and Mark Gibbs (26), aided by 32 extras, got Whitchurch up to 130 for four, which looked like game over.

Barton skipper Jim Parker rang the bowling changes and wickets tumbled.

Adam Last (4-37) finally removed Gibbs on 130 – and three more wickets fell without a run added.

Veteran left-armer Gary Spencer (3-7) quickly got in on the act at Whitchurch crumbled to 145 all out.

Earlier, Ben Lipton had taken three Whitchurch wickets for 39 runs.

Paignton II were to strong all-round for South Devon, who slumped to a 140-run defeat at Queens Park.

 Paignton hurtled along to 257 for nine in their 45 overs, led from the off by opener Mark Smith with 106.

Cole McFarland (30) and Sam Glanfield (20) both chipped in towards the total. South Devon didn’t help themselves by chucking down 33 wides in a hefty tally of 42 extras.

Spinner and captain James Allen led South Devon’s bowling effort with three for 42 from nine overs.

South Devon reached 69 without loss in reply with openers Dinesh Raheja (13) and Mark Andrews going along steadily. Then the wheels fell off.

Andrews, spun out by Rory Medlock (3-21) for 55, was among the casualties as 69 for none became 83 for five.

It was downhill all the way after that as Smith (2-14), Tim Ward (2-16) and finally Jason Woodcock (3-4) skittled South Devon for 117.

Losing skipper Allen didn’t mince his words assessing the defeat.

“Didn't turn up and let ourselves down with the bat,” said Allen.

“We have to go again next time”
