So Close!

On a fabulous sunny day Devon travelled to Wales. Devon won the toss and elected to bat. After a quick wicket, Daisy Meadowcroft put in a fairly quick and positive 28. Olivia Churcher (47) and Maddie Holifield (36) had a fine 73 partnership. Olivia was dismissed lbw three sort of her half century. Unfortunately the lower order struggled to make meaningful partnerships and though Devon their overs, posted 167-9, which felt it might not be quite enough.

Devon's Sophie Florides (39-1) claimed Wales' first wicket in the third over. By drinks at 15 Wales were just edging ahead in the runrate. Rose Ball (8-0-24-2), who only bowled one wide in the innings took the second wicket. Spinner, Alicia Stebbing (6-1-20-1), who was playing up from the U13s for the first time for the U17s proved herself a valued member of the team.

All was poised to be a close finish with Wales only requiring 14 runs off the last 5 overs. Two good overs from Rose Ball and Katie Harman (6.2-0-18-1) left Wales requiring 10 runs off the last three overs and though Rose was to claim another wicket in the 39th, Wales had wickets in hand and the scorers were level at 167 going into the last over. A maiden was required from Devon , though Wales succeeded in getting their winning run with fours balls to spare.

A close match in the end, though Devon's 39 extras went against them!
