Gary Chappell - most economical of the Bradninch bowlers

PLYMOUTH dished out a 151-run drubbing to Bradninch to move 38 points away from the Premier Division relegation zone.

The result was seldom in doubt after Plymouth piled up 332 for eight in their 50 overs at Bradninch, only the margin of victory.

Plymouth’s top three tucked in with James Toms (67), Jon Varcoe (54) and Faizan Riaz (84) getting up to 247 for four.

Toms and Varcoe put on 113, Varcoe and Riaz added 87 and there was more to come.

Dan Goodey (46 off 26 balls) added more misery for Bradninch as Plymouth charged on. It was Goodey’s first game back for Plymouth following the end of his university term in Southampton.

Gary Chappell was the only Bradninch bowler to got for fewer than four runs an over. Eliot Acton (3-50) was the only Bradninch bowler to pick up more than one wicket.

Bradninch were all out in reply for 181, fading after a promising start. Rory Thomas (58), Tendai Maruma (31) and Chappell (33) put scores on the board in a running total of 132 for three, but only Ross Acton (24) added anything significant after that.

Riaz and Matt Petherbridge spun away for three wickets each as Bradninch went from 147 for four to 150 for eight and on to 181 all out.

Winning skipper Varcoe said: “Although there are always areas to improve on, I was very happy with the overall performance.

“Everyone batted well but with small boundaries and a quick outfield the job was not done.

“Bradninch got off to a flyer but, Pethers (3-34), Harry Ramsden and Faz (3-27) took control of the game on a pitch that was turning squarely.”
