What a Win!

Devon won the toss at Heathcoat Cricket Club and elected to bat against Wales.

Non striker, Emma Corney was unfortunately out of her crease and was unluckily run out for a very positive 19. She and Daisy Meadowcroft put on a very pleasing 50 partnership. Daisy went on to form another good partnership of 84 with Becca Halliday, until being bowled out for 47, yet again short of her 50. Becca batted beautifully for her 72. With Devon on 166-4, wickets fell in quick succession, fortunately Olivia Churcher (37*) and Maddy Ross (37*) batted sensibly and Devon completed their innings on a creditable score of 241-7.

What was required from Devon was not only to field well, but to bowl well, hopefully to cut down the wides bowled in recent matches.

Maddie Holifield (6-0-28-3) and Katie Harman (8-1-28-2) were to take the bulk of the wickets, along with Sophie Florides, Ellen Day and Emma Corney who also took a wicket each. Seren Hughes for Wales batted well for her 69, with nine boundaries, but fell at the hands of Maddie in the fifteen over. Devon fielded well to restrict the runs and Wales were struggling. Despite the 48 extras from Devon's bowling, Wales only scored 169-9 for their 40 overs.

A great win for the Devon girls, winning by 72 runs!
