Ben Beaumont - 50 on his 1st XI debut for Cornwood

CORNWOOD remain four points behind leaders Torquay at the top of he A Division after they defeated Chudleigh by 113 runs.

After Ben Beaumont (52) gave Cornwood a start, Mo Salman (111no) and Matt Skeemer (63) kept the board ticking over with a stand of 111.

Salman hit 17 fours and a six during his undefeated 120-ball stay in Cornwood’s total of 299 for five.

Mark Russell (2-27) was the pick of the Chudleigh bowlers.

Chudleigh were behind the asking rate right from the start and the Cornwood bowlers never relented.

Elliott Staddon (2-20) and Adam Goodliffe (0-28) bowled mean 10-over spells, but nothing as tight as Matt Tamsett.

Cornwood’s left-arm spinner took three wickets for nine runs from 10 overs as Chudleigh went virtually nowhere.

Veteran Mark Solway (44), Ed Foreman (20), Rob Clarke (23no) and Russell (21) had the only scores of note in Chudleigh’s 186 for nine.

Winning captain Matt Skeemer said: “Our batting has been really impressive in the last couple matches.

“Sal was again excellent and Ben Beaumont looked very good in his first game for us.

“Chudleigh never tried to chase our score and made it very difficult to bowl them out.”

Chudleigh were without their own skipper Matt Heather, which didn’t help their cause.

“It was a difficult game against a strong team and with several players missing, myself included,” said Heather.

“Looking ahead to Budleigh this Saturday, we have many players back so I'll be looking for a good response.”
