SHALDON interrupted Ashburton’s ascent up the C Division West table when they crushed them by 10 wickets at Haeldown.

Tony Lacey battling it out for Ashburton against ShaldonFive wins in six previous starts had moved Ashes out of the relegation frame.

Shaldon bowled first on a pitch made juicy by overnight rain and dismissed Ashburton for 129.

Ryan Bougourd (4-10) exploited extravagant movement off the pitch in the early overs to reduce Ashes to 39 for four with Lloyd White (25) offering the only resistance at first.

As the pitch dried it became easier to bat on and 13 year old Jake Pascoe (25) anchored the rest of the innings in mature knock.

Chris Yeo (18) and George Marshall (14) chipped-in to get Ashes up to 129 .Todd Ballman (3-15) took late wickets for Shaldon.

Shaldon coasted to victory with openers Andy Lockyer (69no) and Will Moore (57no) winning the game inside 23 overs.

Beaten skipper Ashley Berry said it was ‘a tough game in tricky conditions’ and added: “It was good to see the younger members of the squad - Jake Pascoe and Tom Rush - impacting on the game and taking their chances well.”

DARTINGTON & Totnes lost for the second game running when lowly Plympton beat them by two wickets in a low-scoring affair.

There were three wickets each for Jonty Walliker and Jason Degg as Plympton dismissed D&T for 128. Josh Horrell made 25.

Spinners Harry Baxendale (4-29) and Chris Cook (2-32) made life difficult for Plympton, but Rob Walker’s 19 and 27 from New Zealand women’s international Felicity Leydon-Davies got them over the line.

D&T make the short trip to Cornwood this Saturday.

BRIDESTOWE were on the end of an eight-wicket hiding in one-sided derby clash with Lewdown.

James Ewen (20) and Ryan Dennis (11) had the only double-figure scores in Bridestowe’s total of 68 all out.

Five batters didn’t manage a run between them – Alex Joppling was nought not out – and tail-enders Tom McGrattan and Tom Boother were both out first ball to Tom Pengelly (5-16).

Lewdown lost Harry Geering (32) on 36 and Ollie Brown one run later for a duck.

Pengelly and Dave Ball – both 15 not out - had the game done and dusted in the 12thover.

Pengelly technically performed a hat-trick by dismissing Pat Ewen, McGrattan and Boother with successive, legal, balls. However, chucking down five wides between victims one and two made it one of the more unusual hat-tricks!
